Ugandan Travel Agency is an International Joint Venture with Bulgarian, British and Ugandan participation, founded by Lazar Yovtchev in 2025, recognisable by the initials UTA. The company specialises exclusively in organising travel in Uganda and is dedicated to presenting the country through sustainable tourism, nature conservation and respect for local culture and communities. Over the years, the company has built a name that has become synonymous with and a guarantee of a completely peaceful, secure and safe journey through Uganda – the Pearl of Africa.
The company's founder, Lazar Yovtchev, lived in Africa for many years, and the continent holds a special place in his heart. His love for Africa, his personal experience and his deep knowledge of Uganda are at the heart of the Ugandan Travel Agency philosophy. As a tour leader, Lazar personally accompanies and guides the groups during the safari programmes in Uganda, sharing his knowledge, experience and passion for the country. Our goal is to show Uganda as it truly is – authentic, welcoming, diverse and rich in natural and cultural treasures.
Kim Hamza, a citizen of Uganda with an excellent knowledge of the country, is the company's co-founder. He joined the company as a director at a later stage, following its establishment. Naturally cheerful and full of life, Kim brings a smile and a positive spirit to every journey, turning even the most ordinary moments of a tour into unforgettable experiences. If you are wondering what the gorilla on our logo symbolises – it represents the Mountain Gorilla, one of the most majestic and endangered animals on the planet. Uganda is one of only two places in the world, alongside Rwanda, where the mountain gorilla can be seen in its natural habitat. For us, the gorilla embodies the strength, tranquillity and uniqueness of Uganda's wildlife, and encountering one is an experience that few places in the world can offer.
Uganda is one of the most diverse tourist destinations in Africa. The country combines savannahs, tropical forests, mountains, lakes, waterfalls and a rich cultural heritage. Among the most impressive natural landmarks are Murchison Falls, where the waters of the Nile River force their way through a narrow rocky gorge, creating one of the most powerful natural sights in Africa. Sipi Falls offer scenic hiking trails and panoramic views of the slopes of Mount Elgon. Lake Bunyonyi impresses with its islands and tranquil atmosphere, while the Mabamba swamps are among the best places in Africa to observe the rare shoebill stork.
Mountain lovers can head to Rwenzori Mountains National Park, known as the Mountains of the Moon. Here stands Margherita Peak (5,109 m) – the third highest peak in Africa after Kilimanjaro (5,895 m) and Mount Kenya (5,199 m). Trekking in the Rwenzori passes through bamboo forests, giant alpine vegetation, glaciers and high-mountain lakes that create some of the most unique landscapes on the continent.
Wildlife is among Uganda's greatest treasures. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is home to almost half of the world's remaining mountain gorillas. Encountering a gorilla family in their natural habitat is one of the most thrilling experiences Africa has to offer.
In Queen Elizabeth National Park you can observe lions, elephants, buffaloes, hippos, leopards and over 600 species of birds. The park is also famous for its tree-climbing lions in the Ishasha Sector. Lake Mburo National Park offers the chance to see zebras, giraffes, impalas, elands and many other savannah animals.
Uganda's cultural heritage is no less impressive. During our journeys we visit the Kasubi Tombs – a UNESCO-protected site and the spiritual centre of the Buganda kingdom. We visit the Uganda Martyrs Catholic Shrine Basilica, the Uganda National Mosque and the Baha'i House of Worship – the only Baha'i temple in Africa. A special place in our programmes is also given to the cultural show of the Ndere Troupe, which presents the traditional dances, music and customs of Uganda's different peoples.
